The expedition
This is a one-day expedition, departing Tashkent at 04:00. Breakfast is a sandwich eaten on the way. We arrive in Samarkand around 08:30 and start the walking day at the Amir Temur statue on University Boulevard. From there we walk to Gur-e-Amir, then Registan Square — no rushing here, this is where the morning light and low crowds pay off. After Bibi-Khanym Mosque and Siab Bazaar, we go to the best plov in the city. After lunch we visit the Islam Karimov Mausoleum and Shah-i-Zinda Necropolis. The final and largest stop of the day is the Imam al-Bukhari Complex, about 25km outside the city, reached by car. From there we don't return to central Samarkand — we drive straight to Tashkent. Arrival back in Tashkent is around 21:00.
